Function:

Butterbur has tonic and expectorant properties, and is antispasmodic and analgesic, acting specifically on the stomach, bile ducts, and duodenum. Butterbur has been used mainly to treat chest problems such as bronchitis,asthma,whooping couugh infrgestion. Butterbur helps to strengthen digestion, in particular where indigextion results from obstructed bile flow. Butterbur has also been given for inflammation of the urinary tract, and it has been used externally as a poultice to treat wounds and skin eruptions. Petasin is responsible for the antispasmodic properties of the plant by reducing;spasms in smooth muscle and vascular walls, in addition to providing an anti-inflammatory effect by inhibiting leukotriene synthetics. Petasin has also been found to be treat migraine headache,asthma,bronchitis. Butterbur has also been used for cough ; urination and stomach problems.
